June 1, 1969 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono record " Give Peace A Chance "

July 18 - Senator Edward Kennedy's car leaves bridge on Chappaquiddick
          Island, MA, drowning passenger Mary Jo Kopechne.

July 20 - Apollo 11 landing - Astronaut Neil Armstrong becomes first
          Man on the Moon .

August 8 - " Helter Skelter " - Charles Manson's "family members" carry out
          their first night of mayhem, killing, among others, actress Sharon Tate

          and coffee heiress Abigail Folger. Two days later they strike again,
          killing supermarket owners Leno & Rosemary La Bianca

August 15th thru 18th - Woodstock Music Festival takes place on Max
          Yazgur's farm in Bethel, NY.   "Three days of Fun & Music"

September 2 - Ho Chi Minh, President of North Vietnam, dies.

November 10 - Sesame Street debuts on PBS.

November 15 - 250,000 gather in Washington DC for peaceful protest of
          the Vietnam War.

December 13 -  Arlo Guthrie's short version of "Alice's Restaurant" debuts
          on the Billboard "Hot 100", peaking at #97.

January 3 , 1970 - "Mame" closes at Winter Garden Theater , New York - 1508 performances.

January 22 - First commercial Boeing 747 flight (Pan Am), NYC - London in 6.5 hours. 

January 25 - Robert Altman's film M*A*S*H premieres. 

January 26 -  In Britain, rock star Mick Jagger is fined £200 for possession of marijuana.

March 12 - US lowers voting age from 21 to 18.

March 16 - Tammi Terrell, singer ( "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", "You're All I Need" ),
                                      dies from brain tumor at age 23.

April 1 - US President Richard Nixon signs bill limiting cigarette advertisements on
                       TV beginning  Jan 1, 1971

April 9 - Paul McCartney announces official split of the Beatles. 

April 13 - Apollo 13 announces "Houston, we've got a problem!" as oxygen tank explodes
                        en route to Moon.

April 22 - First Earth Day held internationally to conserve natural resources.

May 4 - US National Guard kills four at Kent State University in Ohio ~
                                Allison Krause,  Jeffrey Miller,  Sandy Scheuer, William Schroeder.

May 14 - Billie Burke, Good Witch Glinda in Wizard of Oz, dies at age 84.
